Last Oasis launched back in 2020 to a decent amount of hype & fanfare. It was completely unique! No plane crash and zombie-filled wasteland! New shit, survival mechanics, and multiplayer with pvp, which always sweeten the deal. I jumped in for a smidgen of time and ended up shelving it. I have difficulty getting invested in a new game that mechanically handles shittier than similar games on my playlist. I typically place them on the back burner and check in on them occasionally, which is what I did with Last Oasis.
Time passed, and the game fell solidly into a Mixed review status. Bit of a blend of things- the quality of the PvE aspects, the griefing & unbalanced nature of the PvP interactions (zerg clans, etc.), and bits of misc here and there. In April of 2022, the developers decided to overhaul the game entirely and posted detailed Steam blog posts on the upcoming changes. Now season 5 is live with the changes!
To say it was poorly received would be an understatement. The most recent ratings plummeted to Negative, and people started tantrums all over Steam and Discord. At this point, I wonder if the game has been abandoned since the developers have not posted to Steam or Twitter since November of 2022. Either way, I would avoid picking up the game- the singleplayer experience is pretty crappy, and there don't seem to be enough players to make it worth attempting multiplayer.
