No Survival Roundups were posted during November, so this will be the first since October 23rd. This update spans from October 23rd to December 24th. Join the Discord for time sensitive updates!
Above Snakes- Development is blazing along and the game is looking great. The developer is posting regular dev blogs, definitely check those out. Kickstarter backers have now received Beta access to the game.
Among the Trolls- Sadly the entire team at Forbidden Studios was laid off shortly before Christmas, leaving the project to be shuttered.
Blind Descent- The developers have a consistent dev log update that drops at the end of each month. I appreciate the detail involved: each update breaks down past progress, future goals, and the thought process behind the work. Make note that in their most recent post they did specify that upcoming play-tests would be restricted to their active Discord members only- so be sure to check it out and get involved.
Deadmatter- The 0.10 Closed Alpha update was delayed till after the New Year, solely impacting the folks within the alpha who are under NDA and unknown. So TLDR, carry on with your day.
Deadside- There’s now a small community driven roadmap to keep an eye on, if that’s your thing. There’s also a recent video detailing an upcoming vehicle-centric game update.
Empyrion Galactic Survival- Just in time for holiday vacation, update 1.9 is released with new features and game adjustments.
Escape the Pacific- I really need to scratch out the time to play this game. I really like the path they take with features and updates, like their most recent one in November that reworked the time flow system.
Forever Skies- If you haven’t tried the demo yet I’d encourage you to hop on it. It has an interesting ‘Subnautica in the sky’ type feel to it- and with the demo length increased to 40 minutes, plenty of time to get the hang of flight. It’s definitely worthwhile to frequent their social media platforms for gorgeous & informative visuals. Their Discord is also a good spot for news updates, like their most recent news concerning the delay of Early Access to first half of 2023. Give the entire thing a read for more depth.
Green Hell– Lot going on with GH! Spirits of Amazonia part 3 is finally available on consoles. You can finally name all of the unknown plants and crap that are located inside your little notebook– that shit has bothered me for years. They’re also apparently going so balls to the wall with features for the upcoming Building Update that they’ve chucked it onto a beta branch for game owners to playtest.
Hold Your Own- Game is continuing to pick up speed in terms of updates and changes under the new developer, with version 10.1.0 going live with some fairly expansive updates to the building systems.
Icarus- Happy belated one year anniversary to Icarus! Shhh, I wasn’t even that late. As per usual/every week, Icarus has made many many many updates in the month and change since the last RoundUp. Check out their celebratory one year post chock full of large scale current & upcoming changes.
Nightingale- A new trailer for the game was revealed during the game rewards in partnership with Intel. Many new features were shown off– and explained in the accompanying website article- including rock climbing and gliding via umbrella. The video was very pretty! To me the game still looks and gives off the feeling of Amazon’s New World except with more fantasy/eldritch parts and Victorian overtones, minus PvP. No strife beyond that to be expected in an MMO (*points to world bosses, dungeons, etc*) and the same gathering/building features that are creeping into more games.
Ozone Wipeout- Some gorgeous environmental/time of day photos in this newest post from the developer! I swear half my time in survival games is spent taking photos. CitrioN (the developer) has a very interesting & methodical approach to development and enjoys engaging with the community in his Discord. If you haven’t joined yet, pop on in.
Rooted- The game now has a detailed website to peruse.
SCUM- Still knocking it out of the park with these chunky content updates at a fairly decent clip. Update 0.8 brings a bunch of new shit including farming, modular building, and a nuclear power plant.
Starsand- The developers moved the game into 1.0 full release status back in middle of November! Great job team!
Subsistence- While the update release lagged a bit behind his normal speed, the developer dropped Alpha 60 to the public branch earlier this month. Time to craft an ATV and ram into shit!
Survive the Nights- You’ll really have to hit the link for this to read it directly, but the TLDR is that a shit ton of world customization options are now exposed and able to be used to tweak your gameplay experience.
Under A Rock- This latest video is flat out described by the developers as a ‘teaser’ video, so in before folks are crying about not seeing shit/more details. That’s what a teaser is- think more strip tease than anything else. It looks interesting! If I went completely off of visuals I get more Raft/Grounded/Valheim than a gritty survival experience- with a heavy focus on building??- but who knows how it will go!
Veil of Dust: A Homesteading Game- Per the developers the game is now 2/3 complete with the addition of the patch dropped on December 11th! First hand experience is worth a thousand words, so head to their Steam store page and download the free demo to check it out!
VEIN- At the end of November the development team pushed Vein to version 0.005! This actually brings a lot of change to the table as you can see in the video or read in these dev notes. It looks like I need to find some time to hop back in there and see if I click with the game in this newest incarnation, since I haven’t enjoyed my few times within game thus far. If you try it out, be sure to let me know how you liked the demo over in the Hashtag Discord!
