Among the Troll(ed)

Can't say that the bad launch is a surprise.

Join me on my random thought train!

On June 16th, 2o22 I posted this video to the Among the Trolls Discord.
(It was originally hosted on my deleted YouTube channel and I just stuck it on my new one today.)

Actually, I'd recommend watching the first minute or two of the video so we're all on the same page.

But, yeah. I was excited for the game. Lots of people were excited for the game!

And then the entire studio was axed right before the holidays.
(I had a specific Tweet in mind to share, but it looks like that account is long gone, so here's a crappy LinkedIn post.)

The project "came back to life" in 2025 under new management:

To my eyes you can sum up their 2025 progress - and dev blogs - with one word. Bland.

Basically, my interest in the game died a bit with everyone of their posts. In April they read the room (ish) and pivoted away from the survival aspects of the game to rebrand it as a narrative experience that would be single-player, for reasons.

At that point I swept the game into the dustbin (figuratively speaking) and completely stopped following it until last week when I saw it was - finally - released. Today I decided to pop over, give the page a looksie and see how it's going.

Oh, not good I guess! It could be something I pick up - one day far, far in the future while on sale - to see how it changed from the original vision. I did take a quick peek at the most recent trailer, and I'm kinda interested in this very The Forest -esque inventory/crafting setup they've got going on?

If you end up giving it a try, lemme know how it goes?
